My daughter Danielle found this vegan restaurant that is located in Winter Park Florida called Ethos. She took my wife and I there for my birthday. When we got there the place was full and they said it would be a hour wait. They had a sitting area so we took a seat and waited since we just drove an hour to get there. The place is decorated nice and had a good atmosphere. They have a bar inside that looked like it just served beer and wine and they have a bakery inside too. My wife and I made our way over to the bakery and bought 3 cookies since we had an hour wait. The vegan cookies were awesome! The hour wait ended up being only 10 or 15 minutes. Once we were seated we ordered one appetizer and a bowl of the soup of the day which was potato leek soup. The appetizer we ordered was called Boxty, which is Irish potato pancakes dressed with vegan sour cream and scallions (picture below).
The potato leek soup was excellent and the potato pancakes were too! My daughter and I liked the potato pancakes better and my wife preferred the soup.
Next up was the main course. I had cornbread skillet, which is cornbread baked in an iron skillet and topped with sautéed black eyed peas, diced tomatoes, red and green peppers, and celery. I chose the Blackened Tempeh over the Chickun, Tofu, and Seitan. The meal was delicious, I never had black eyed peas before so I wasn’t sure about ordering it, but I made the right choice. Check out the picture of my meal below.
My wife ordered the Samson Burger, which is a black bean burger. She wasn’t happy with her choice. She is not vegan so she’s not a good gauge on how the burger was. I took a bite of her burger and it was good. I took her left over home and finished it the next day. She should have probably ordered the pizza. Below is a picture of her meal.
My daughter ordered the Chickun Bruschetta Sandwich served on housemade artisan bread and said it was very good. I have no picture of her meal she was to quick to dig right in. She didn’t have any cookies so I guess she was hungry. My wife and daughters meals came with chips and hummus and the hummus was awesome! Our visit to Ethos was great. It’s good to see a vegan restaurant with such a great atmosphere and vibe, instead of just another restaurant that just has vegan options. Ethos has been open for eleven years now, and is celebrating their birthday on January 25th. Even though it is an hour from Merritt Island I can see myself going there again. Winter Park’s downtown is pretty cool too, with lots of shops and restaurants, just a nice area to visit. Oh, I almost forgot the best part, my daughter paid for the dinner. See below for a picture of her paying. Great birthday present Danielle, thank you so much!
